Lady Smyth’s Almshouses, Long Ashton Road were built in 1902.

These were first administered by the Trustees following the demise of Ashton Court Estate.
The Almshouses consist of four bedsits and four one bedroom units.

First consideration had to be given to anyone who worked at the Estate or close relatives but these are now gone. Residents must be able to look after themselves.

The 1902 Parish Council minutes refer to the Old Almshouses – “the Chairman replied that the Trustees said the Almshouse was no longer required, and as it was not in a fit state for occupation they had applied for permission to sell it. Failing this a sum  of £60 or so would be spent on getting it in a condition fit for letting.”
